Miller and Egler Photostation 18 - southern Headquarters Marsh7

Photo at photostation 18 in 1976
Photostation 18. "The 1947 photostation (topmost photo) is located o the est of Headquarters Marsh, looking southwest into LIttle Narragansett Bay. There is a small drainage ditch to the right of the 4 rocks. Spartina patens and Distichlis spicata are the dominant species with an occasional individual of Solidago sempervirens. Iva frutescens is present at the end of the ditch which is close to the tidal creek. Note the dark circular patch of vegetation with abuts the stone wall and another dark irregularly shaped patch of vegetation to the left of the ditch. It is probable that the vegetation is a Juncus gerardii community" (Coleman 1978). In the middle photograph (1976) "the drainage ditch is obscured by a dense stand of Iva frutescens. There is a circular area of forb panne which abuts the stone wall. Another circular area of forb panne community is observed to the left of the drainage ditch behind 4 rocks. The vegetation beyond the Iva frutescens stand and toward the tidal creek is stunted Spartina alterniflora (Coleman 1978). In the bottom photograph (2015; Rozsa) the vegetation to the left of the stone wall is Distichlis spicata. The ditch is non-functional and the communities at the ditch are stunted Spartina alterniflora and salt panne.
